Saunders presents a broad history of Sabah from its precolonial past to its postcolonial present. Topics of discussion include Sabah’s relationship with its predecessor state ‘North Borneo’, Western imperialist influences, state creation, Malaysianisation and the ongoing commercialisation of Sabah’s natural environment.
